One of my favorite things that I enjoy is to go into coffee shops. I started to go during my undergraduate days whenever I had some extra time or wanted a peaceful spot to work on tasks that was not at home. Personally, I enjoy visiting the local coffee shops that are visible in the community instead of the corporate coffee shops. By supporting the local businesses, I give back to my community and the local business.
With the multiple--and I mean MULTIPLE--coffee shops that I visit, I try to do my part to promote the coffee shop. With the power of social media, I started to feature them. Recently, with the help of my sister, I started to make Coffee Review on TikTok. To this day, I still continue to make these Coffee Reviews on different coffee shops that I go to or ones that I have not tried before. In each coffee shop, there are so many talented baristas and so many people that visit. Every barista is visible in the way they present themselves from the moment they ring up your drink to how they craft your drink. This is one of those moments.
Beautiful, sharp—
she reminds me of you.
How she has her hair up in a bun
just like you,
especially when you are busy.
She’s dressed like a smooth dark sky
with her teeth glowing as brightly as the stars.
She may appear like you.
After all,
she even paces like you.
Yet, she is brewing dark coffee beans from El Salvador
to prepare for the afternoon rush.
Her native tongue is not the same as yours;
as yours is more high-pitch and rich filled like trumpets.
Meanwhile, her native tongue is tough,
as if she was told her entire life that the world is cruel.
She tries to laugh with her customers,
but makes it difficult.
But for you, its so easy for you to laugh.
In fact, you laugh every five sentences.
You would come in the coffee shop
to escape your city life on a temporary basis,
yet she is living in it
as she views it every day from the executive director morning meeting
with the director discussing about business
to two friends laughing and talking about the latest city gossip that spreads like wildfire in the afternoon.
Beautiful and sharp:
she reminds me of you,
yet I have known you for many years
while I just met her today.
